yup, it's a di-box, but with special feature for guitar only: cabinet simulator.

normal di-box won't do the trick... the important key in recording guitar track is to get a "miked" sound from a cabinet. actually, u can use other cabinet simulators as alternative such as:
  • Line-6 POD
  • Digitech's X-series pedals
  • Tech21 SansAmp GT2
  • etc..

yg bagusnya Ultra-G ni boleh dpt balanced sound (XLR-out)... one more suggestion (if u don't wanna use Ultra-G) is to use Behringer's GDI-21... in this case, u don't need that Metal Zone anymore, coz it has 3 amp models (Mesa / Marshall / Fender)... and the drive module sounds great! it also has XLR-out..

p/s: btw ajeep, yg Ultra-G tu kena beli ori punya, kalau tak, tak jadi hehehe...

I also think you really don't need the boss mt-2. Your amp already have a lot of gain. You need something like a clean boost or an overdrive pedal.

About micing, cheapest way I know to do this is to buy the Toneport ux-1.
Pretty convenient & the quality is quite good compared to most soundcard at it's price range.

What you'll get is,
    - mic input to record your amp + preamp module to record vocal
    - hi-z input for bass & guitar, with gearbox software that have PODxt sound quality, lotsa amps & bass amps
    - can send clean guitar or bass for re-amping or to be used with softwares like amplitube2 or guitar rig2.
-It is also a soundcard with ASIO driver so you can record with minimum latency, allows you to use cubase or other DAW softwares, use VSTi's like drums, strings, pianos.
-Very cheap kalau compare dengan most audio interface yang lain. Rasenye murah sikit daripada MT-2 tu. Lagi satu kalau guna AI still need a good preamp & compressor. Toneport have these built in.
-Kekurangan sebab takde midi input - although banyak alternative yang ada untuk guna midi kat computer.

btw I use a Marshall DSL but I'll NEVER mic my amp because I know i can get better quality & flexibility through digital devices, unless someone give me 1000 bucks for a good mic, preamp, compressor etc. Tu pun ntah cukup ke tak Very Happy

heheh dua-dua aku pakai... Zoom utk live session je... Behringer utk recording...

actually any cabinet simulator boleh guna, cuma best atau tak tu depends pada user la...

blehbleh: brapa market price utk Toneport ux-1 nowadays? aku mmg tgh usya audio interface yg murah2 je... kalau dpt Creative Soundblaster pon jadi la, janji support ASIO... kalau ada MIDI port lagi bagus! sbb 7th Sound Studio yg aku pi hari tu pakai Soundblaster, sedap je recording dia heheheh...

darrenbkl: maybe need to check the recording input level.. what do u mean by "sounds like shit"?

then it'll sound like shit going thru any thing. Laughing

I don't know much bout guitars. All I know that, it really does make a difference between recording from a good guitar..and a lousy one.

Posibly input to soundcard it too much . If the signal is too hot it'll cos cliping/digital distortion.

Can. You don't need an amp if you have a multi effects with Guitar amp modelling capabilities.

if u have a multi effects maybe you can compress your guitar signal a bit so when you strum too hard the level will be more leveled.

Just need to know what sounds good/bad sound right? You don't need to play every intruments to know that. Smile

darren, like i said earlier, your soundcard most probably wasn't built with recording in mind, just for voice chat or stuff like that. Your amp signal is certainly too hot for it to handle without clipping especially with clean sounds.

zid aku x bape sure sebab x pernah usha lagi, should 2-300. Soundblaster tu orait jugak, tapi untuk orang yang pakai laptop atau selalu jalan x bape beh sangat la. Tapi untuk kualiti dah good enough walaupun banyak orang cakap creative ni bukan specifically made for recording. Ada jugak org ade masalh ngan driver. Should try je sebab memang murah betul mende tu. Lagipun ko dah ade gt-2 so takyah kisah sgt pasal preamp or modelling ape jadah Very Happy

true true. my problem is ..sometimes I couldn't tell whether the guitarist intentionally wanted that "bad" sound or he didn't realized that it's bad. Maybe if I am a guitarist as well, I might be able to connect and communicate better with that guitarist? speaking to him in guitar language Laughing
