this is the National Capitol of Bangladesh
and every Bangladeshi will be proud of this building because it was built 100% by hand without any modern machines within 30 years timeframe.Everybody from the area nearby gave a hand to complete the project.

If such project can be done without any modern assistance of any kind, therefore it is possible that the Great Pyramids were built by human alone, not by any alien whatsoever.

haha The Shar-e-Banglanagar...i did a paper on that while i was still an architecture student. AKU KUTUK BAIK PUNYA.
The theory is good, using modernist abstractions of islamic geometry, but kalau ko amik gambar jauh je sikit angle, u'll see that its surrounded by wooden dilapitated buildings and shanty towns yang dah hancur baik punye, not to mention it hogs up more than half the electricity of the city grid to run...what a waste. Money would of been better spent elsewhere imho. But i guess if u need a national icon, then u need a national icon. Whatever the cost.
Btw, its designed by a jewish architect and he died before it was finished...but u cant find it elsewhere where a jew builds a moslem building..tak leh jumpe tu. GO BANGLA!

(sbb building ni Louis Kahn jadi archi-hero aku)
tp at least sampai thp tu je la pembabitan org luar
eh Jeff

aku tak tengok , tapi memang diorang bangga giler building tu, salah satu sebab diorang pakai local manpower becos there was funding problem, Bangladesh isnt a very rich country..tu sebab lama sangat nak siap kot. But u have to admire their determination and their willingness to work together as a people to realize a national dream, no matter how long it took and how much it would cost. RESTECPA!
Louis Kahn punye Salk Institute was what interested me in his work...dia punye theories and play with geometries yang aku suke..masa mula dulu aku model my work after him tapi lepas tu aku dah masuk aalto, utzon, venturi, FLW and a few current european and japanese architects dah kurang sikit ah.

national icon kite yg tinggi gile tu
dah la arkitek org luar - brazillian born american
yg membina pon org luar gak - australian project management team
teknologi pon dr luar- korean and taiwanese
duit je duit kite - duit minyak dari sabah + sarawak

its as geographically incorrect a building as u can get. how exactly can they expect us to be proud of it.

*EDIT*
forgot to add = MADE BY INDON AND BANGLA . They actually have the honour of pointing to it and saying 'we built that'.

aku skarang study psl 3 architects ni aje

-Kahn
-Liebeskind
-Gehry

tiga2 Jewish,tiga2 suka buat iconic buildings, bezanya the latter 2 kaya nak mampis tahap superstar while the 1st one mati papa kedana, literally.

tp tu la Jeff
aku rase ko patut tgk citer My Architect tu
ramai kawan aku yg kureng suke ngan Kahn terus jatuh chenta sama Kahn lepas tgk citer tu.

serve and servant spaces sampai skang aku apply..bende tu memang bagus ah, efficient way of making buildings.

Gehry ngan libeskin..entah...malas ah Decon, but i do like zaha hadid punye kerje. Decon tends to make the building end up with too many dead spaces and is somewhat reduced to a fashion statement rather than an architectural movement. Gehry tu ok ah, 2 buildings that im most familiar with is the Gugenheim in Barcelona and that dancing building i dont remember where. Theory dia cam tak makan sangat ngan aku la...it seemed like it was made to justify the shape rather than the other way round. Lecturer aku kutuk gile liebeskind...it seems ramai architects tak suke dia..tak tahu asal.. maybe becos dia lecturer for 20 years before he actually built something and the papers he released while teaching were criticized a lot, so when he was commisioned to do the Jewish Museum, they went 'wtf? they gave it to him?'...jealous kot.hehe

Tapi kalau ko dah established, duit pun dah banyak... boleh la pilih jobs nak buat bende monumental and iconic. infact u can go on stage and make a speech of pure crap to justify it and still have ppl applaud u for it.
us regular joes here are stuck with clients that go "i WAN CHEAP CHEAP BUILDING AH! DOWAN DAT DIZAIN DIZAIN BULLSHIT AH"

duh.

Hmm..whilst icons and symbols are necessary to provide objects that encapsulate hope, honor and pride, I'm pretty sure the same amount of effort over a span of 30 years (approximately one generation) would resulted in a thriving community with homes, schools, community support, health care and a strong financial framework. An overall enhanced quality of living.

Now that would be a model for other Bangladeshi's to aspire to.

Setting priorities seem to be a challenge in many developing nations. They are so afraid to be "left behind" by the west and have developed such inferiority complexes, they throw their money, time and other precious resources into building or hurling their people as high into the sky as possible.

in the true spirit of local tv/movie production!
