fretted bros,
since we are all at it with so many issues, i think these might help.
1) BLUES
white
guitar - spongy tone, low output and flat tuning
pedal - loose drive or fuzz with leslies
amp - rectified or not tube amp with that blooming tone
* except for jimi as a matter of fact, and delay added for later
black
guitar - arch type or acoustic, tight tone and large gauge
pedal - clean or fuzz or pure crankin' drive (john lee hooker huh?!)
amp - tube clean combo
2) ROCK
group 1
guitar - high output, mostly strats with single coils, eb tuning, tight 'batu' tone and larger gauge
pedal - pure crankin' overdrive, phaser with some space echo or wah added
amp - high volume stack tone, mostly marshalls
* inherited from hendrix influences
group 2
guitar - high output, mostly les pauls with humbuckers tone, standard tuning, tight 'batu' tone and larger gauge
pedal - pure overdrive, phaser or flanger added as new landmarks
amp - high volume stack tone, lotsa of other names like ampeg, hiwatts, orange and more...
* remember 'budgie' i turn to stone, the birth of 'rock kapak era'
3) METAL
guitar - humbuckers is a must, either passive or active, 'batu tone' inherited from the rock era, larger gauge with flat tunnings and rosewoods
pedal - tube or not tibe metal pedals and sometimes mixed with vintage to have that benchmark tone with some chorus added if needed
amp - any type tube and non tube scoop boxy tone stack added
4) JAZZ
hardcore
guitar - archtop type, low output with flat strings
pedal - compressor if needed, mostly no
amp - 15" clean amp or similiar combo, vintage as per gibson amps
fusion
guitar - semi acoustics, strat or tele type upgraded, newer guitars or design
pedal - compressor and a lil' drive, chorus with some delay and midi equipment
amp - 2 x 12" clean amp or similiar, modern rectified tube combo or yamaha and roland jc as standards
the rest are combies out of these or add up value on equipment. banyak lagi, but the above are just basics saje. as for the 60s, tube tape echo, vox amp w/o top boost and as the early strats with es 335 and eb 1 as combination.... just like 'the beatles!'
btw, aku pakai...
guitar - ash body with maple neck blond telecasters with that spongy tone twang setup and vintage frets, one with emg (my 'flirt' tele) that i've 'mojoed' the looks and accessories, and the other one is a standard 52 reissue, low output and flat tuning
pedal - loose tube drive, cranked maxon with space echo delay
amp - rectified or not tube amp with that blooming tone, big or small does not matter asalkan boleh crank up! nanti aku post pictures ya!

aku nih noob aje.
for blues:
i want a blackface type of sound with a scooped mid guitar and a nice thick overdrive. preferred sound from a LP on the neck position or a rosewood fret strat on bridge as well.
for rock:
one of my guitar heroes is brian may and slash. i always believed in vintage ol skool british tone. no money for tube marshall and vox. so have to use booster pedals.

sound mcm berangan2 nk jadi gitar hero lak. hahaha
xlah sound sbijik cam diaorg tapi lbh krg je.
i use a 1985 greco Les paul custom warna itam nyer. berat dia cam 4-5kilo! long tenon neck nih rasanya...amp tu jgn ceta..sakit ati aku tgk x dpt lagi amp impianku.effect tu berlambak lak. ahahhaha |

aku nak sound aku satu je tapi tapau semua blues, rock dan heavy rock. Kira sound jenis Heavy blues rock la..hehe
sound yang aku nak mestilah pekat, tak tight dan tak loose tp warm dan ada sikit berkaca2 (wah byk songeh tol). Kesimpulannya ialah hybrid Lukather + Andy timmon dalam mode single coil. Masih belum dapat2 lagi. Equipment yang dah confirm skrg ni cuma guitar strat aku aje. Amp dgn effect apa nak pakai belum ketemu lagi.

a) gibson 335
b) delay ( yg pergi & kembali berjuta2 kali ke telinge aku)
c) reverse ( yg berputar - putar mengelilingi minda aku *panning for pening!)
d) beberape2 tube amp.
aku tk kesah vintage ke rabak ke custom ke diy ke..janji still leh gune.aku sebat.
thanks. for telling my imagination for me.
