I recently got my hands on some Grover Rotomatics tuning keys/machine heads/tuning pegs. The problem is my les paul has a smaller hole (8mm) and the Grovers are 10mm at the base.
Whats the best way to enlarge the hole? I read that using a DRILL is a big NO. So the other option is to use a manual hand drill ? Anyone out there knows any technician/luthier who's good at woodwork?
Please help ! |

er... hand drill and drill are also drill. la bro.......
yes, you'll need to enlarge the hole using a special drill bit called the frostner bit. what they fear is that the normal drill bit will tear and shred open the surface( which the brand are printed on) Lacquer. a frostner bit job from behind will do the job nicely , A high speed drill will also prevent this from happening
if youre a afraid to do this yourself, get a repair man to help you with it, or if you feel adventurous, and need more detailed instructions email /call me @ 0378777500 or john@fattyandskinny.com.my |

Nice birds eye banana headstock
yes, metal bits are fine on UNFINISHED neck. with hard lacquer/ poly...
better not try that . PLUS, hand drill make sure its REALLy perpendicular, or else you dont wanna end up fitting a slanted tuner! use a drill press if you have one. |
