Sekarang saya ada dua pilihan
1. Samick/Greg Bennett Avion Av3.
2. SX Les Paul.
Both about 700++ price range.
Samick claims mahogany wood but I think it's not a true mahogany, since that term is so loosely used nowadays, any wood can easily be called Mahogany.
Which one would you go for if you want a cheap LP copy ?
I am having GAS now. |

if they say mahagony. then mahagony.
but dont expect Gibson grade mahagony.
those Samicks most probally have lower grade mahagony,
depending on price range. but Samicks aint bad.
if SX, go check out Woh Fatt. they still have some old stocks
of the earlier production run SXs.
the similar body cut, almost similar headstock and set neck.
IMO those are better then the current runs.
also another brand to check out is Santa Cruz.
the only place i know of is La Taregga, SACC Mall in Shah Alam.

I do agree with the Agile. Its cooler but I wonder its availability here in M'sia. Last time I saw it was at rondomusic.com. Other than that, I would recommend SX.

aku pnah main V shape...
Kayu 'rase' mcm tak tahan lame. Same 'rase' cam pyramid.
pickup... no komen.. aku tak reti sgt...
fret & fretboard.... cepat kasar... cepat berubah bentuk...
action... not very friendly and quickly out of tune...
Palm mute... susah..
switch... getting loose & ureliable..
ape lagi aa... lupe laa.. tahun lpas punye cite...

Was going to buy the greg bennett/samick av3 today, but in just a matter of weeks, I noticed the frets worn down.
Because itu boloh punya kedai kasi orang test test dan pekerja store pun bantai tali gitar itu sampai tali rusty.
They didn't even bother to wipe strings after testing/use, and the black/sticky/brown gunk formed on the strings, rusts as well, and the guitar smell was awful.
I insisted on a new stock or else I am not buying. Why should I pay full price for a 'used' guitar with prematurely worn frets?
Kalo tak masuk stock baru, then I wait, I am not gonna buy from them. |

why dont you try craftmen at CK?
i think they got promo package with line 6 Amp...

bro, i am in JB, not many choices. I am lucky to even find a samick/av3 around.
Anyway, I found another av3 in their other branch, and it was in much better condition, nice levelled frets, and tone was awesome.
for rm 700 i don't think i can find anything else better than this.
I felt like heaven when I heard the tone. Loved it!
Was going to consider an SX LP but the shop i went to says it's package deal only, they're not selling the guitar individually.
Besides, it's bolt on and the workmanship wasn't as good as the samick/greg bennet av3.. not to mention it's slightly more expensive. |

Singapore is a good choice if you want to buy an original gibson. Should be cheaper there.
But for budget guitars like the samick, it's still cheaper here.
Besides, the travel to Singapore to/back would've cost me more money anyway.
I do intend to check out singapore if I wanna buy more packs of strings..it's cheaper to get from there.
Here on average it's all 19-20++ when you get from Singapore even after conversion should be 15-17. |

yes. Santa Cruz yg tu mmg rase semacam je.
sama gak mcm model dieorg yg copy Jackson etc2
but the Les Paul holds up IMO.

Aku pakai les paul custom copy brand garaxy.
- entah dari mana asal usul daaa.
- kata orang indon made.
- Tapi everytime member datang rumah, test ini guitar sure terkejut.
- pasal gua dah upgrade pakai 18v EMG, gotoh tuner, laminate brass bone nut, aluminium tail piece, cuma saddle lagi aku lom sampai tangan nak tukar.
- tapi before upgrade pun menang ada tone semacam, cuma silap owner dia pakai pickup terbalik, neck pickup berada kat bridge, bunyi kering nak mampus. tapi bila dah tukar pickup yg betul. really it sing.
- Kalo aku laa, aku carik samick artist macam everdying punya dulu.
- SX or craftman, try ketuk dengan tangan la itu lespaul body.
- kalo bunyi kedap tu heavy la dia.
- kalo bunyi woody sangat, mean bright laaa.
- bright tak sesuai utk les paul, lain pakai maple top... hehheheh.
- try ketuk pakai jari la laaa. takan pakai tukui kakakak.
- ketuk the back side bro.
- ketuk atas cavity for sure holo lah bunyi dia.

SX paling berbaloi beli!!
Aku ada GG1 STD LP Copy. Pickup P-90..( Gibson guna P-100)
Banding ngan Epiphone, lebih kurang je...tapi aku rasa tone dia lagi best dari Epi..lagi clear.
Aku ada gak test Santa Cruz, bentuk warlock ngan flying V..cam hampeh!! tak best langsung bunyik!!
Kalau nak budget dan berbaloi beli la SX..tapi SX LP ada jumbo fret je..
