Current Equipment:
Core 2 Duo 2.5Ghz Laptop
4 gig RAM
What I need is a simple setup,(software/hardware) for recording. Most importantly is fast results & no hassle/cable tangle.
Software must be simple to operate (I'm only an 80's style old school recording musician) but with ability to create musical notation from MIDI keyboard (this is for my son la...aku buta huruf LOL).
I also need a MIDI USB keyboard controller.
Suggestions please on what/where to buy and estimated prices
Thank you! |

utk requirement mcm ni, aku mmg suggest Line 6 Toneport UX2 la... mmg no hassle / cabble tangle... just hook up the UX2 with the laptop via one usb cable... then bleh dgr balik thru powered monitor / headphones... cuma dia punya drawback is that it doesn't have MIDI interface (tapi bleh beli seperately kot??)
comes with GearBox software (older version) / PODFarm (for newer version of Toneport series).. check out line 6 punya website...
aku tak rekemen firewire punya interface sbb ko nak kena sambung dgn adaptor (utk power), then firewire cable lagi... nanti nak kena hookup dgn guitar cable, dah serabut... tapi kalau ko insist nak pakai firewire interface, aku ada nak jual satu heheheh... +7645242739431 on the Line 6 Toneport (now called POD Studio), but not necessarily UX2. Like deadzid, I'm a proud owner of the UX2 too. This product name comes in various models, each is suitable depending on what you want to record. I posted this not so long ago in other thread:
fish wrote: | aku tak pernah guna interface lain selain toneport ux2. memang senang nak guna utk org2 yg tak belajar the art of recording secara formal mcm aku. sound tak leh ckp the best sebab tak try yg lain tapi good enuff for home recording. above average. aku pun setakat ni happy dgn ux2 & tak bercadang nak tukar interface lain. dah cukup berkualiti sound dia. and menatang ni dtg dgn software name "Gearbox", memang best! kalau setakat ko nak main gitar kat rumah, tak payah beli FX pedal lain. jam thru computer je.
toneport ni ada mcm2 tau. toneport gx memang paling murah sebab dia paling basic. ko kena tanya diri sendiri, apa yg ko nak record. ni paling penting sebelum ko beli mana2 interface, bagi aku la. kalau tak, beli kejap mesti ko nak upgrade. mula la menyesal tak leh record vocals. biar belanja lebih skit, janji puas ati. kalau takat nak record guitar & bass, beli gx. kalau nak record vocal sekali, beli ux1. tapi ko boleh guna ux1 utk dynamic mic je, tak leh guna condenser sebab dia takde phantom power. aku beli ux2 sebab dia ada phantom power. kalau ko nak sume features yg aku ckp kat atas tadi termasuk MIDI keyboard/controller, then amik kb37. ux8 tak yah cakap la sebab ko nak yg murah kan....
aku suggest ko jgn beli dulu, tunggu CK Music punya year-end sale bulan 12 ni. dah tak lama dah & masih sempat nak save duit. |

If i may interject, can i interest u to this?
http://www.infra-sonic.com/site/p_USB_amon.php
Its a audio interface with usb2, its small, very compact, its powered via usb so less hassle of tangling cables.
Let me explain briefly what it has:
Front panel
-1/4 TSR phone jack input for microphone
-1/4 TS phone jack for input instrument (HI-Z), can be used for bass and guitars
-1/4 TRS(stereo) phone jack output for headphones
Back panel
-USB connection input
-Midi in
-Midi out
-line in (left and right)
1-line out(left and right)
I believe this would be the hardware solution for you. I bought mine from Midi specialist in lowyat. Priced at 600 when i bought it, could have gone more, since thats 1 year ago. U cant play both guitars and midi keyboards together at the same time tho, since the software controller only lets u use 1 channel at a time. Maybe theres a work around on this but i have yet to find it.
For software solution, i think this might be what u may need.

Its not a freeware im afraid but i believe it can get the job done. You can buy this from the website itself. Hope this helps. |

Aku ada infrasonic Amon dan Toneport GX..
Aku rasa beli Amon baik sebab siap midi channel skali.
Ada mic preamp..tapi x de phantom power. Boleh guna dynamic mic je.
Mmg aku guna amon sbg main rig utk recording.
Bole tahan la...tapi aku beli mahal sikit.
tapi takpe siap midi skali..
Toneport body plastik..
Amon ni keras sikit..
Dari segi kualiti sound lebih kurang je..
Aku rasa line6 overpriced la...bagi aku laa.. _________________ Pengguna Tegar Ableton Live!! |
