oits huzai, ko dah angkat ke lom? aku nak tahu juga.
Basically i think with most audio softwares skang, the bottleneck happens with the memory and not really the processor because of the the 32bit memory limit. Audio software apart from being processor heavy are also memory intensive especially when dealing with huge numbers of raw audio files in the access of 20++ tracks. Since xp vista 32 max addressable memory 4 gigs, (realistically only 3 gigs of system memory is used if u have memory on ur gcard too since gcard memory adds to addressable memory limit), and this is all still dependant on ur mobo, so chances are youll probably run out of memory long before you run out of processor horsepower.
Since youre talking about audio software performance, run a background software that monitors memory usage and watch it while running ur audio softwares. Often the case, even with the full 4 gigs of RAM u would probably find that youll be left with less than 10 megs after a few mins running your multi track audio editing software.
So my advice is i think u shud check out using a 64bit vista system and see if theres any real improvements there first. Theorecticaly, 64bit systems can handle 16 exabytes i think which is roughly 4 million more bytes than a 32 bit system(not sure about the maths there so jsut google it). With vista64 the limit is 182 gig though i dont think u can support that much memory on a single board so its probably for a linked system or a workstation, so max RAM for a 64bit OS wud probably be what u can fit in your slots and that would still be dependent on the mobos max RAM capacity, which itll probably state in the manual somewhere.
I think the new windows 7 has capacity for 8 gigs RAM for its 64 bit version, but i havent really sat down and looked at what thats all about yet. Anyway...like i said. Check out a 64 bit OS first before investing in a new processor. Whichever is the cheaper option. |

betul tu jeff, aku pun dah upgrade ke 64bit before, but selagi protools tanak kuarkan 64bit nye edition aku rasa susah lah
aku skang dah downgrade balik ke 32bit sebab soundcard, software limitation (cubase takde 64bit crack damn it).. kerja banyak tertangguh takleh buat sebab aku takleh pakai cubase kat 64bit nye system lagi..
tapi kalau dari segi cpu usage so far aku pakai core2quad ok lah, but still tak cukup, biasa lah... aku rasa maybe kena upgrade ke dual quad core baru ok kot? hehe
