IHMO
to determine how great is that guitarist, depends on how he could influence the listener...
maybe he could release his WOW factor to the listener via Shred... or maybe via weird psychedelic guitar riff.. or mellow stuffs... even you play simple chords...
to sum it up... which ever way it is...
if you could make the listener 'thinks' you are great... then congratulation..
You are genuinely a GREAT guitarist.

bg aku, ttg terhebat, maybe xde kot.. tp mmg btl la ckp sorg bro tu..
bergantung mcm mana kekuatan muzik yg kita main tu dpt mempengaruhi jiwa pendengar.. sbb xde sape yg perfect, rite? tp bg aku, aku ttp minat SLASH.. walaupun ramai lg pemain gitar yg lbh speed n versatile cara main drpd dia.. eg: Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, JS, SRV, Synyster Gates, n many more..
so, kesimpulannya, bergantung pada pendengar la..
mereka (guitarist) ni, cuma blh dikategorikan sbgi Expert..
tq.. heheheheh...

Totally agree with all eternal's point. it's absolutely objective. in my case, ritchie blackmore, john petrucci & dave mustaine had amazed and made me start to pick guitar seriously. a guitarist is great to one person if he/she thinks his playing suits his emotion, appetite and it encourages him/her.
to judge someone is great is up to personal view n i wont touch others opinion.
